Total shipments of portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico in July 2014 were 9.0 million metric tons (Mt), up by about 11 percent from the level in July 2013, according to the most recent USGS Mineral Industry Survey.
Shipments for the year through July were 48.5 Mt, up by about 8 percent from the same period in 2013. The leading Portland-cement-producing states in July were Missouri, Texas, California, Michigan and Florida, in descending order, and these accounted for about 43 percent of the total output.
The leading consuming states (Texas, California, Florida, Ohio and Illinois, in descending order) received about 36 percent of the July shipments. Clinker production totaled 7.2 Mt in July 2014, up by about 15 percent from the output in July 2013. Production for the year through July totaled 40.9 Mt, up by about 6 percent. The leading clinker-producing states in July were Texas, California, Missouri, Florida and Alabama, in descending order.
Masonry cement shipments in July 2014 of about 216,000 metric tons (t) were up by about 8 percent from those of July 2013. Shipments for the year through July totaled 1.29 Mt, up by about 8 percent. The leading masonry cement-consuming states were, in descending order, Florida, Texas, California, North Carolina and Georgia, and these received 49 percent of July’s shipments.
